Theory: Draft Plan

 Theory (Contemporary and Historic context)

   Topic (what interests you)
Tracey Emin – Embroidery

Outline of points to be discussed
  • Is her work just art or is there a deeper meaning behind her work?
  • What has influenced her to create work in this way?
  •  Are there artist creating similar work at the time it was created,  or if she purposefully being different?

 Relationship to own practice

Costume – addition of embroidery, applique, etc
Using stitch as another medium to create images/ pictures,, instead of just conventional ways of creating line.
The ideas behind the way I have created my piece and that it’s not as simple as the costume may appear – hierarchy, concealment, secrets, revelations, truth, context

A description of one art work (as if we cannot see it)

“Like many of Tracey Emin’s pictures this embroidery piece is as much about the words incorporated in the piece as well at the layout and images contained within the piece. The composition of this particular piece is a rectangular format which includes a lot of detail, both factually and technically constructed. There are a wide range of colours within her piece, but many of the main colours within this particular piece are derived from the colours of the union flag, which is also featured within the work. Tracey has included a lot of text into the piece which spreads across the whole piece, giving little regard to the divides created within the change of colour within the different fabrics or the union flag.”
